Doughty has the ability to become a great asset for any team. His offensive prowess almost draws likeness to that of Capitals break-out defenseman Mike Green. That said, the same knock on Doughty is the same knocks on Green, whereas Doughty can make end-to-end highlight reel rushes, but if he turns it over, he’s very far out of position. Even with that, Doughty is a highly touted prospect and should got top-5 in the Draft.
Of course, when called upon, Doughty can be the stay-at-home type. Being one of the top defensemen at the World Junior Championships this January, Doughty should he can be multi-dimensional. Doughty is also a big asset to the power-play with a blistering point shot and the ability to quarterback a power-play.
The advantage to Doughty is the fact he has already played three full seasons in juniors with the Guelph Storm. This may not seem like much, but this extra development could give him to the Show faster than it would for some other defensemen picked in this draft. It’s not always the best blueprint for success, but it is something that could peak the interest from lottery pick teams.
With so many attributes, it’s no wonder why many people thing that Doughty could steal the #1 spot away from Steve Stamkos.
