Bruins Win Blake Wheeler Sweepstakes

The American version of Fabian Brunnstrom has apparently found a home. According to Kevin Dupont of the Boston Globe, 21-year old Blake Wheeler will sign a two-year deal with the Bruins as of July 1. The former No. 5 overall selection by the Phoenix as a high schooler in 2004, was declared a free agent after he could not come to terms with the Coyotes. The Bruins are hoping that the 6'4 power forward won't spend too much time down in Providence and can add to the growing youth crop in Beantown.

"Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli, reached via email, wrote that he was pleased that Wheelers chose the Bruins. "Of course, ‘’ added Chiarelli, "we can’t sign him until July 1, but we look forward to getting him in the mix. Any time you can get a young player of Blake’s caliber with that blend of size and skill, you are very fortunate.’’

Ballhype: hype it up!

Hmm, the Bruins could be dangerous in two seasons if Wheeler and Raask progress, if Bergeron can continue his career and if their coach can change his entire philosophy to take advantage of that young speed, rather than stifling it in the Devils system ...

And Sean, btw, love the new masthead pic/logo although I am admittedly a little surprised neither of the teams are the Pens ...

thanks Scotty....I'm trying to rotate in more mastheads over the summer. Just need to find the right pictures to capture the "five hole". I think that one gets it pretty damn good for the time being.

As an...ahem... bitter Phoenix fan, I hope he tanks.
