Twenty-four hours earlier, the Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a blow to the gut when Sidney Crosby injured his ankle. The prognosis has PensNation depressed and wondering what else could wrong?
When the Penguins traveled to Montreal for a date on Hockey Night in Canada, no one expected the team performance that Pittsburgh would display. Dany Sabourin turned aside 31 Canadien shots en route to a 2-0 shutout. Jeff Taffe scored the game-winner and Evgeni Malkin, with the net empty, outpaced the Montreal defense to tap home the insurance marker.
This was the first game after the Penguins became Evgeni Malkin's team for the moment. He was all over the ice creating scoring opportunities and gave hope to a fanbase that was down in the dumps after losing their captain for an extended period of time the night before.
Pittsburgh would lose three of their next four before going on an extended points run to vault up the Eastern Conference standings. Malkin himself would go on a points run to put himself in position to become nominated for the Hart Trophy at the end of the season.

Its been his team for over a year and will always be his team. The media circus behind Crosby will eventually slow ... perhaps when Malkins out performs Crosby for the 2nd straight year???
