Barry Melrose Headed Back to ESPN

According to Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News media blog, the recently fired Tampa Lightning head coach will be heading back to his old stomping grounds of Bristol, Connecticut and returning to ESPN as a hockey analyst.

Horn is reporting Melrose's new deal is for three years, which in my opinion, is a pretty safe bet that he sees it through. Barry's days behind the bench are likely over.

It'll be interesting to see how they use Melrose with Matthew Barnaby, the current ESPN hockey analyst. I'm sure they'll be paired up during ESPN's eighteen seconds of hockey coverage a day.

I'd love to see Melrose bring back his podcast, "The Melrose Line", with ESPN hockey editor Joy Russo. Currently, ESPN's only hockey related podcast is "Hockey Today" featuring writers Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun.

Ballhype: hype it up!

Barnaby is horrible, I'm sure ESPN was quite thrilled he was there, but thank god Melrose is coming back. I have to sit through 58 minutes of ESPN, and when the Hockey segment comes on, and its Barnaby it just makes it hurt that much more..
